Changes to advocacy services in Staffordshire: Total Voice Staffordshire launches April 2018.

New advocacy service will strengthen voices, support choice and empower people to take control

From 1st April 2018, the advocacy provider for people across Staffordshire will be Total Voice Staffordshire. Total Voice Staffordshire will support people to have their voices heard and rights respected. The service is free, independent and confidential.
The Total Voice Staffordshire team is made up of two experienced organisations working in partnership: the national advocacy charity VoiceAbility and the local advocacy charity Asist. Together, they will provide all statutory advocacy services (IMHA, IMCA, Care Act Advocacy and NHS Complaints advocacy), through a single point of contact.
Advocacy is about making sure that people’s thoughts and opinions are heard, especially when decisions are being made about their lives.
Independent advocacy is a statutory right for individuals who, without independent support, are unable to be involved in making important decisions about their lives. Eligibility criteria for advocacy prioritises those most in need.
Professionals have a duty to refer eligible people to independent advocacy under the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act and the Mental Health Act.

Who can Total Voice Staffordshire support?
The service will also offer specialist advocacy support to adults who may have mental health issues, learning disabilities, dementia, acquired brain injury or other disability. We will also work in some cases with children and with family carers. Anyone can access the service for support with making a complaint to the NHS.
